Sierra Leone veteran star player Kei Ansu Kamara has joined one of the three Canadian sides in the MLS CF Montreal on a season long deal with an option to extend it to one more year.

The 37-year-old, who signed as a free agent for his ninth MLS club last featured for Finish club HIFK last year.

“In the absence of numerous attacking options through either injury or illness, namely that of young forward Ivy Brisma who had a strong preseason training camp, we had to take measures to strengthen the roster,” Montreal sporting director Olivier Renard said in a release on the club’s website.

“Kei is a highly experienced player in MLS whose offensive abilities will help us both on the pitch and in the locker room with our young group of players.

We’re happy to welcome him to the club.”

The 2022 MLS season starts just over a week’s time on February 26, and Kamara is expected to make his debut for Montreal away to Orlando City in the Eastern conference of the league the following day.

The move comes after the former Norwich and Middlesbrough forward played for Sierra Leone at the Africa cup of Nations in Cameroon won by Senegal earlier this month

Kamara who is the MLS fifth all-time leading goal scorer is playing for his second Canadian MLS club having previously played for Vancouver Whitecaps.

His other past MLS clubs are San Jose Earthquakes, Houston Dynamo, Sporting Kansas City, New England Revolution, Colorado Rapids, Minnesota United and Columbus Crew with whom he had two spells
