Leone Stars are now in Abuja to take on Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Thursday in their opening game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The 54-man delegation comprises 25 players and 29 officials arrived in Abuja on Saturday via Lome from Conakry where they had a training camp, and are now lodged at the Sandralia hotel.
The team to be led by new captain Steven Caulker based in Turkey will have five days to train and accamaltised before the group A encounter at the Moshood Abiola stadium.
Nigeria will be going into the match on the backdrop of two defeats to Mexico and Ecquador respectively in build-up games in USA.
The last time Leone Stars and the Super Eagles met in a Nigerian soil was when Sierra Leone remarkably came from four goals down to draw 4-4 in a 2021 Afcon qualifier on November 13, 2020.
The return leg in Freetown four days later ended goalless which was the last meeting between the two teams.
