Leone Stars train in Cameroon for the first time for AFCON

Leone Stars have had their first training session at one of Japoma stadium’s two training grounds in Douala ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations opening game against Algeria on Tuesday.

All 28 registered players including skipper Umaru Bangura, Kei Kamara, Sullay KaiKai and Steven Caulker trained.

There are no reports of any injury during the session.

Under the introduction of head coach John Keister the players started with the usual loosening up and finished off the session with eleven a side match.

Idris Kanu, Musa Kamara, Abu Dumbuya, Prince Barrie, Alusine Koroma and goal keeper Ibrahim Sesay were rested for the practice match.

Assistant coach Amidu Karim is pleased with the training.

“The first season is good as the boys complied,” he told Sierra Leone Football.com, adding that: “I like what I have seen.

“We have more sessions to go before our opening match and we are working on distablising Algeria to get a good result.”

Another member of the technical team Gibrilla Woobay said: “I like the intensity of the training and the spirit of the players.

“If we continue with the intensity and high level of concentration I believe we will get a good result against Algeria.”

Kemokai Kallon who is also given a technical role in the team expressed similar sentiments.

Leone Stars will play two matches at the Japoma stadium in Douala against Algeria which is the opening match in group E and Ivory Coast before travelling to Limbe to face Equatorial Guinea on 21 January.
